My Macmillan Coffee Morning

Last Friday, I hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning (day) to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. It was fantastic and definitely recommend doing this type of thing to raise money for charity- eat cake, drink tea and catch up with friends and family!

I spent the whole of Thursday, the day before, baking and decorating which my daughter also enjoyed! I ended up making; Ginger cake, carrot cake with a cinnamon butter cream, toffee muffins with chocolate frosting, chocolate cake pops, coffee cake topped with dark chocolate with a vanilla butter cream center and a lemon loaf topped with a lemon mousse. My friend Channon made nutalla muffins with whole meal flour and my sister-in-law and niece made some iced biscuits! We has loads- to be honest I did have an awful lot left over!
On the I ran the event for the whole day as a lot of people were at work and I wanted to maximise the donations and catch up with people I would not normally have been able to see.

In total me and my guests raised £81.03p!! I am so proud of myself and everyone who contrabuted with all the effort made. Thank you everyone!!

If you would like any of the recipes, please let me know! 💚

Getting my craft on!

I just wanted to post to let you know what I have been doing the past couple of days.

I have had a huge break from doing crafts but now I am back to it and have soooooo many ideas in my head it may burst.

I went away the weekend just gone to my grandparents for some r&r and became inspired by something my Aunty Jennifer was doing. She had decided to do some decoupage and had got hold of  a deers head model. I thought this was an amazing idea so I had to give it a go myself and this is the result of my labour.....

I am going to get my husband to hang it on the wall in our living room/stairway....and I have already got plans for more!!
I had not done any decoupage since school when I made a pink rabbit mask (which was actually really creepy) but have now decided to get back into it, so much so I got a elephant model today and have some other things in the pipeline.

All I am using is a model, issue paper and glue. simple and thereputic. I will make a tutorial post if you would like one so please let me know by commenting.

If you can't be good, be naughty recipe!

Autumn Treat Sticky Ginger Bread

Ingredients
- 7oz self-raising flour
- 7oz sugar
- 1 tsp pureed ginger
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2oz margarine, plus extra for greasing
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp golden syrup
- 9fl oz hot water

Equipment
Large mixing bowl
Measuring jug
Weighing scales
Spatula
Table spoon
Tea spoon
Cake Tin/ Silicone Cake Mould
Knife

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180C.
Grease and line a baking tin with greaseproof paper. Or cheat and just use a silicone cake mould.

2. Mix the flour, sugar, ginger, cinnamon and bicarbonate of soda together in a bowl. Using your fingers, rub the margarine in until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add the egg, syrup and hot water and mix until well combined. I just use a spatula and put in some elbow grease but feel free you mix your way. The mixture will be fairly runny and smooth when ready.

3. Pour the mixture into the tin/mould and bake in the middle of the oven for 35–40 minutes, or until golden-brown. I would advise to use the 'knife trick' to confirm it is cooked through. (Sink the blade of a butter knife into the cake and if it comes out clean, your done).
Leave to cool in tin/mould and When cool, cut into chunks.
I say chunks because it is stodgy, it doesn't cut into shapes very easily. However, this makes it look rustic.

One thing I would advise is that if you would like to have this as a pudding, serve it hot with custard...

Some of my Smoothie Recipes

Ok so I am happy to admit that I can be tight with money but that is because we live on a very tight budget.
I love to eat well and look after my body and yes, sometimes fruit and veg can be expensive which is why in some of me recipes it will say canned/frozen fruit or veg. I am very lucky to have family and friends who grow their own and donate food stuffs to me and I have been known to pick the cherries from the trees outside my work!

Alot of the fruit and veg a do buy from the supermarket is either the own brand cheap value stuff or the reduced because of damage or near the use by date. I just think this option is better than no fruit and veg so that a healthy living and sort of be lived...

Anywho I will be posting a lot about my thrifty lifestyle some more so I'll shut up for now. Below are some of my smoothie recipes if you would like to try.

Feedback would be fantastic, happy and healthy slurping!

Race for Life July 2013

My Race for life in the town where I live was unreal!

It was the hottest day of the year so far and our town park was a sea of pink. One of my best friends and I turned but at the park around 10ish and I have never seen the park that busy, whole families and friends there to support each other run the 5k Race for Life for Cancer Research.

We did a huge group warm up with all the race participants with a local Zumba fitness group, we were told inspirational stories from people in treatment as well as remission- all of it was truly humbling and my friend and I had huge tears in our eyes!

We set off at 11 as scheduled and we decided to go in the jogging group as the heat was already wearing us out and I am not known for my running abilities if I'm honest! It was great reading everyone's tabs to see who/why they were running the Race for Life. All ages, sizes, abilities....and lots of different outfits! One person was dress in a fluffy Pikachu outfit, I was only in shorts and a crop top and I was sweating like mad so I don't know how they did it.

We completed the race in 55 mins....yes we power walked some of it was it was just sooooooooooooo hot. My husband, daughter, dad, in laws, niece and friends were there to support me and watch me cross that finish line. It was just a buzz!

I'm so proud of myself as well as EVERYONE who took part in Race for life 2013. The money raised is going to an amazing cause and hopefully it will help make a giant leap forward to kicking cancers butt!

A mini update, an apology and a resolution....

Ok, so I have cheated on you. I had a look at Wordpress and had a dabble but it's not for me. I apologise for being unfaithful but I am back. And by back I mean that I am really going to commit by blogging more, getting stuff done and all sorts.
I will warn you that I am about to post a lot from previous drafts that I did not get to publish but instead of apologising I will wish you happy reading!

So my husband and I had a little girl who we named Effie and she is soooo scrummy. We are loving me being parents and could not be happier in our little family unit.
I have returned to work. I am back in retail and work evenings and the odd Saturday morning. I am really enjoying it and have made some amazing friends. One of which I must make a mention of is Meg who inspired me to pull my finger out and get back to blogging. I can not thank her enough.

My focus on my blog is not limited as I am here to share my life, finds and experiences to hopefully entertain and inspire you. If there is anything you would like to ask, feel free :-)

It's good to be back
